  1. Iowa, the "Hawkeye State", is known for its manufacturing and agriculture. 
  2. A large fertile land, relatively flat, with hot humid summers and extremely
  3. cold winters, Iowa was the 29th state to enter the union on December 28,
  4. 1846.  A thousand years ago, Indian mound builders first settled the land. 
  5. Marquette and Jolliet gave French claim to the area in 1673 and in 1803 it
  6. became a territory of the United States through the Louisiana Purchase. 
  7. Several famous Iowans have blessed America, including: Buffalo Bill Cody,
  8. George Gallup, Herbert Hoover, Glenn Miller and John Wayne.
